A Pony Named Blessing

Who would take home the donated foal, Blessing? God had someone special picked out.

A PONY NAMED BLESSNG                                                                                                                                                                                          In 2006 Michael and Jacqueline Clark purchased a beautiful filly at the wild pony auction on Chincoteague. They named her Blessing and donated the filly to the Feather Fund that day. Mike and Lara Cornell of Misty Dreams Farm donated hauling to Maryland. Eleven year old Summer Barrack had been caring for the splashy chestnut pinto foal for over two months. The filly had come into her barn as the wildest the Feather Fund had ever purchased. But after Summer applied her magic hands and heart, with soft words and touches and lots of love the pony filly had become a gem. In late September the group met to decide where the foal would go. Charlene Strunk, one of the volunteers came with tears in her eyes. Jamie, one of the little girls who rode at her aunt’s farm had lost her pony, Mr. Frosty. After spending thousands of dollars trying to save the gelding, the family found out he had inoperable cancer. They’d spent too much money trying to save the pony. Buying a new one would be too costly. The decision was easy. Jamie’s mom submitted an application. When we called we asked her to bring Jamie to our benefit horse show in October, but not to tell her we would be giving her a foal that day. It was hard to sit through the morning portion of the show, knowing what we would be doing on lunch break. Charlene called everyone to gather around the ring for a special presentation. Then she read aloud over the intercom, telling the story of a little girl who had lost her pony and a donated foal, and how we would put them together today. Jamie was called into the ring. She looked dazed as she led the pony out of the ring with everyone cheering around her. As she reached the round pen where Blessing’s hay was, Jamie turned to her mom. “Who is going to take this pony home?” she asked. “You are,” her mom said. “This is your pony. The Feather Fund gave Blessing to you!” Tears streamed down Jamie’s face. She hugged the foal for a long moment. The rest of the afternoon found Jamie leading Blessing around and around, stopping to hug and kiss her every few moments. Blessing, on her first time off Summer’s farm, was a perfect lady! She knew she was where she belonged.
